Controversial Appointee Scott Yenor Resigns from UWF Board of Trustees

PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Scott Yenor resigned from the University of West Florida Board of Trustees on Wednesday.

Yenor was one of five trustees appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis in January. This caused much backlash due to his past controversial comments regarding women in the workplace.

Students responded with protests, while citizens and commissioners also spoke out against the appointment.

In February, DeSantis defended his pick of Yenor, saying, "I think Scott is somebody who will be a champion for the classical mission of a university. He will fight the indoctrination and will really be part of the solution going forward."

Here is what Yenor wrote in his resignation email on Wednesday:

Gov Ron DeSantis' higher education reforms are models for the country. I was looking forward to bringing the Governor's positive vision for higher education to the University of West Florida as a member of the Board of Trustees. Opposition to my nomination among a group within the Florida's senate, however, leads me to resign from UWF's Board of Trustees effective immediately.

Patriotic reformers in higher education need to imagine a different future. We know that the higher education status quo is bad for the country. Eliminating pernicious practices from our universities is a start, and Florida has led the way. Building great American universities is now a high priority for Pres. Trump, Gov. DeSantis, and others. I will continue to work to make America's universities great. UWF too has great potential to celebrate Western civilization while staying connected to dynamic economic changes. I wish UWF the best.

Yenor is currently a political science professor at Boise State University.

In October 2021, he criticized women for putting their careers over motherhood and marriage. He described career-oriented women as "medicated, meddlesome and quarrelsome."

Shortly after this, Yenor responded through X, saying women focused on the workplace has weakened families.
